If you have been exploring injectable treatments, chances are you have come across two of the most recognized names in aesthetic medicine: Botox® and Dysport®. Both are trusted, widely used, and designed to help soften expression lines—but they also do more than that.
At Spa Luxe, many patients are not simply looking to “treat wrinkles.” They want to look more refreshed, more rested, and more like themselves. For some, that means softening a tired or tense appearance. For others, it means creating a smoother, more balanced look that still feels natural. That is where Botox and Dysport can both play a role.
One of the most important things to understand is that there is no single answer to which one is “better.” As our nurse injector often shares, it truly varies from patient to patient. Facial anatomy, muscle movement, treatment history, goals, and even how your body responds all matter. Still, there are a few general differences that can help you understand how these two treatments compare.
What Botox and Dysport Actually Do
Botox and Dysport are both neuromodulators, meaning they work by temporarily relaxing targeted muscles that create repeated facial movement. This can soften the look of lines in areas like the forehead, between the brows, and around the eyes. But beyond that, these treatments are often used to create a more polished overall appearance.
Patients often choose these injectables because they want to:
- look less tired or tense
- soften a heavy or overworked expression
- maintain smoother skin over time
- support a refreshed, natural-looking appearance
Rather than changing the face, the goal is usually to help the face appear more at ease.
General Differences Between Botox and Dysport
While both products use botulinum toxin type A, they are measured differently and may behave a little differently in the skin.
Units needed per treatment
One of the biggest differences is the number of units used. Dysport generally requires more units than Botox for the same treatment area. That does not mean it is stronger or weaker—it simply has a different dosing scale. For example, an area treated with 20 units of Botox may take closer to 50 to 60 units of Dysport.
How quickly results appear
Dysport is often known for kicking in a little faster for some patients, sometimes within 2 to 3 days. Botox often begins to show in 3 to 5 days, with full results usually visible within about 10 to 14 days. Of course, every patient responds differently.
How it spreads
Dysport is sometimes described as having a slightly broader spread, which may make it a good fit for larger areas. Botox is often chosen when a more precise placement is desired. This is one reason why your injector’s assessment matters so much.
The Best Choice Is a Personalized One
At Spa Luxe, we do not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to injectables. The right treatment depends on your facial movement, the areas being treated, the look you want to achieve, and how subtle or targeted your results need to be.
The best way to decide between Botox and Dysport is through a personalized consultation. Our approach is always centered on elegant, balanced results that help you look refreshed—not overdone.
If you are curious about which option may be right for you, our team would be honored to guide you.
